Our Promise to You
We are eager to help solve your technology challenges. The following are best practices and examples of the types of work that will be performed during a "check-up" if a client chooses to do so after an initial diagnostics service:
-
Virus scans with one or more free products, or products that the client owns
-
Explain to client any antivirus programs they have and how this might slow down the system. If more than one, then they can also work at cross purposes to each other
-
Locate and delete any programs that are used to remotely access the client’s computer. Any programs of this type that the client chooses to keep, will be retained.
-
Help change passwords for email, Microsoft, Apple and other pertinent programs
-
Discuss how to save passwords in the future
-
Check and adjust startup programs
-
Check activity monitor to identify any programs that are using an inappropriate level of system resources
-
Check disk storage on computer
-
Run updates - teach client how to continue to run updates and the importance of keeping the computer up to date
-
Check email for forwarding or redirecting rules
It is not possible to be positive that a computer is completely “cleaned." If the steps above do not clear up any issues, then reinstalling the operating system is the next step. The most complete option is to delete all material on the computer and reinstall the operating system. If existing content is saved in order to move it back to the computer, it is possible the virus or other issue will be reinstalled on the computer as well.
The steps described above are generally adequate to clean up a computer, but it is not guaranteed.
